    MOHALLA SABHA FOR PARTICIPATORY BUDGETING

   

    The Government of NCT of Delhi launched a unique initiative to involve citizens in participatory budgeting exercise through Mohalla Sabhas in 11 selected    Assembly Constituencies.

    The aim of the exercise was :

    1. Assessment of local needs

    2. Prioritisation of works being demanded by the people through voting

    3. Redressal of grievances

    Under this inistiative 35 Mohalla Sabhas were conducted in the District. The pilot Mohalla Sabha was launched in the district which was attended by Hon’ble    CM Sh Arvind Kejriwal, DyCM Sh Manish Sisodia, MLAs, Chief Secretary, senior officers and all District Magistrates of Delhi on 19/04/2015 at three places    in Patpargunj AC. Each Mohalla Sabha was presided over by senior officers from the District Magistrate office and assisted by volunteers from the    participating locality. The pariticpative locality was formed by merging 3-4 homogeneous polling stations so that Mohalla character should be uniform.

    The voters of the Mohalla Sabhas were invited through invitation letter issued by the office on behalf of Hon’ble DyCM. Extensive local media campaign like    placing banners, rickshaw announcements were also made. Each event was properly documented. The first Mohalla Sabha was live streamed on web also.

    The Mohalla Sabhas got extensive media coverage and participation of citizens were in large numbers with different demands for different areas.
